About Adam E. Teper, Esq. - The Animal Lawyer

Founding Attorney

Attorney Adam E. Teper entered the legal field to protect the rights of animals—companion, wild, and farm alike. A true Animal Lawyer, he advocates for the rights and protections of all animals, regardless of classification.

Adam earned his Juris Doctor from Massachusetts School of Law in 2023 with a concentration in Criminal Law and is licensed to practice in Massachusetts. He represents a wide range of animals—from dogs, cats, and horses to turtles, whales, and wildlife—and even receives Pro Hac Vice requests from preserves across the country. He is unafraid to take on big cases to give animals the voice they deserve.

In law school, Adam’s trial advocacy teams placed regionally and nationally in mock trial competitions, where he also acted in practice sessions to sharpen his courtroom skills. Before law, he spent 15 years as both a schoolteacher and a SAG-AFTRA actor, experiences that strengthened his voice, advocacy skills, and contract knowledge. He also volunteers at an equine rescue and with conservation groups, underscoring his commitment to advocacy beyond the courtroom.

Adam’s decision to pursue animal law was deeply personal: his own dogs, Smokey and Jagger, were victims of unjust systems and outdated laws. When Smokey was unlawfully killed by a government entity, Adam resolved to fight for systemic change so no other animal would suffer the same fate.

From 2021–2023, Adam worked extensively on animal law and consumer protection cases as a paralegal before continuing that work as an attorney. As a 3:03 certified law student, he defended indigent clients in criminal cases and quickly saw how human and animal rights intersect. Today, at Teper Legal, PLLC, he fights fraud, corruption, and injustice—whether on behalf of animals or humans.

"I’m here to upset the status quo. Too many lawyers don’t care—I do. If you harm or threaten an animal, I will be there." – Attorney Teper

Katherine Primeau - Paralegal

Katherine Primeau brings a background in civil litigation and a longstanding interest in animal law. She studied Conflict Resolution at Pennsylvania Western University before transitioning into the legal field, beginning as a legal assistant in insurance defense litigation. She later earned her Paralegal Certificate from Stony Brook University and has supported attorneys in commercial and business litigation as well as corporate matters. As an animal lover with a particular fondness for dogs, small burrowing animals like hedgehogs and chipmunks, and semi-aquatic species such as otters and seals, Kat’s interest in animal law grew through personal experience and exposure to investigative reporting and documentaries such as Blackfish and The Cove. More recently, high-profile cases involving cruelty in breeding facilities and research labs—including reporting on Inotiv’s beagle lab and Neuralink litigation—have further driven her commitment to accountability and advancing legal protections for animals. Outside of work, Katherine enjoys spending time outdoors and in nature, especially with her family’s Redbone Coonhounds.

“The great and invigorating influences in American life have been the unorthodox: the people who challenge an existing institution or way of life, or say and do things that make people think.”
